Wheels we've tried...
The second-most common question we've been getting is, "Will they fit my
wheels?" Well, as time goes on we'll check your wheel, especially if you live
near us (CT or WA) and we can trial-fit it.
Here's a list of all the wheels we've tried to fit, and the results. This is
ALL the ones we've tried; if they are not listed here we've not tried them and
we don't know if they will fit. If you email us asking if your wheels fit, and
they're not listed here, we will simply refer you to this page with the note
that we don't know if those wheels will fit. Yes, we do get that question a
WHOLE lot...
Note
that wheels acceptable over System 2 and/or 3 will probably fit over System 1.
However, unless specifically listed, we have not tried them over System 1 and we
cannot guarantee them to fit.
System 1
ONLY
Tested and Acceptable:
- Any wheels that fit over BIRA System 2 brakes (see below)
- A8 17" five spoke wheels. More information forthcoming.
-
Audi/VW Tango wheels, 16x7 ET45. "...fits fine,
but the stick-on wheel weights MUST be mounted to the far inside of the
wheel."
- 1995 S6 Avus style stock 16" wheels
- 1993 S4 stock wheels, 8Jx16H2 ET40. Labeled 4A0 601 025E
- V8Q stock forged BBS wheels, 8Jx16H2 ET35. Labeled 441 602 025K,
BBS RG043
- 2000 Audi TT factory 17" wheel (5x100 bolt pattern over the TT
rotor)
- 2000 Audi A6 2.7T, 16x7 ET45, no spacers required (http://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/622199.phtml)
- 2001 Audi Allroad "twin spoke" 17" (7mm clearance)
-
ASA JS5, 17x7.5, ET35
- ATP S5, 16x7" ET 35
- Avant Garde Design SL, 17x8, ET 32. Labeled BBS 05 44 020
- BBS RK, 17x8" ET35. "Tons of clearance."
- Borbet Type B, 16x7.5, 35 mm
offset
- Borbet Type C, 17x8.5 ET30. Nice fit, plenty of clearance.
- Borbet Type E, 17x8 ET 35 size. Fits fine, with about
3mm clearance.
- Borbet Type M, 17Jx8H2, ET 35, labeled H80735.
- Borbet Type S, 17x7.5, ET 35 (2.5mm clearance)
- Borbet Type T, 16x7.5 ET 35
- Ergon Multispoke 16x7.5, 35mm offset
- Moda Sport by BBS 16x7.5, 35mm offset (labeled "7-1/2J-16H2 ET
35"). Close on the face, but no fit problems.
- Ronal LV, 17" (installed on a 1995 S6)
- Ronal LV, 16x7.5" ET 35. 5mm clearance to rim, 3mm
clearance to back side of spokes.
- Ronal R28, 16x7.5 ("S4 fitment" only!)
- Ronal
R28 17x8.5
- Ronal R-38,
17x8 ("nearly and inch of clearance in all directions!")
In general, any 16" ET35 wheel should fit, and in general any
16" ET45 wheel will not.
Possibly Acceptable, with modifications:
- Borbet Type E, 16x7.5, ET 35. These are so close. There's
raised lettering on the back side of the wheels spokes that just
scrapes the caliper face. Our BIRA member that has these hand-ground the
lettering down and it cleared fine. Alternatively you can use a 5mm spacer.
Not Acceptable
- 1999 A4 Sport 16x7, ET 45. 7-spoke Sport wheel. Ronal 4D0 601 025J.
Will need a good-sized spacer (definitely more than 5mm) with longer H&R
lug bolts. You "might" be able to use the H&R 8mm spacer, but we'd suggest
getting the longer lugs anyway.
- 2000 A4 Sport 16x7 ET 45, 10-spoke Sport Wheel.
Speedline 4AO 601 025P. It was very close, but will need a
spacer (3-5mm is plenty). The rotor sits flat against the wheel, but the face of the caliper just touches/scrapes the spokes
of the wheel.
- A6 16x7, 45mm offset, "wine glass" wheels. 10mm spacer
(and longer wheel studs) required
- Audi A8 factory wheels, 16x7, ET37 - will require a 5mm spacer
- Audi 15" BBS wheels from a 1991 200q with UFO brakes. Won't fit,
unfortunately. I didn't think it would, but I had to try. You'll have to run
at least a 16" wheel.
- AT Italia (or ATP) FLASH 17" - "needs 5mm spacers,
would probably work with 3mm...it's really close.....but with 5mm there's
plenty of room."
- BBS RF - did not fit. Very deep face and will require a HUGE spacer
- Borbet Type C 16" - "needs 5mm spacers and it's
really close"
- Fuchs factory lightweight 15" wheels - did not fit, but no
surprise -- you must run 16" wheels. These might have made it except for
diameter
- MOMO Arrows 16" with 35mm offset. No other details on the wheel
were sent to me.
- TSW Hockenheim 16x7.5 ET35. These
will not fit Sys1 without a spacer (I am using an 8MM spacer...5mm
might fit but I don't know for sure.)

System 1 for the Audi TT and Golf/Jetta
IV
Tested and Acceptable:
- 2000 Audi TT factory 17" wheel (5x100 bolt pattern over the TT
rotor)
Not Acceptable
System
2 (except UFO)
Tested and Acceptable:
Possibly Acceptable, with modifications:
Not Acceptable
- Any wheel that does not fit System 1 (see above)
- Avant Garde Design SL, 17x8, ET 32. Figure on a 5mm spacer
- Borbet Type C, 17x8.5. Will need a 5mm spacer
- BBS RX, 17x8, ET35. RX201. Requires spacer.
SYSTEM 2 NOTE:
When comparing the factory wheel of the neu-S4 over
the System 2 brakes versus over the stock HP-2 brakes, it appears that the
backface clearance is virtually the same. In fact, it appears that System 2 may
have about 1/2 mm more clearance than the stock brakes. Therefore, it is
suggested that any 17" wheel in which a supplier is willing to approve to fit on
the neu-S4 should fit successfully over the System 2 brakes. Do note, however, that the System 2 caliper is larger in diameter; unlike the
stock HP-2 brakes System 2 will require 17" diameter or larger wheels.
Note on Kinesis K20 Wheels, from a BIRA member Brandon
Hull:
"Kinesis can make a wheel that will accommodate
the System 2, but you have to specify the large offset center forged piece.
The only reason mine cleared was a machining error that created a
greater-than-spec spoke back space, apparently. They are making new custom
center pieces for me, which will add 4mm of backspace. So the info on the
site should at least add the disclaimer 'Speak with Alan at Kinesis when you
order wheels for system 2, he is familiar with the requirements and will make
sure the wheel fits."
System 2
for the UFO
Tested and Acceptable:
- AZEV Type A 17x8 ET35: No problem, tons of clearance
- AZEV Type A 17x8 ET30
- Mille Miglia MM-11^2 17x8 ET35
- Oettinger RE 17x8 ET35
- Ronal R-28 17x8.5 ET35
- S4tt Avus 17x7.5 ET45
- In general, any wheels fitted and acceptable for System 6 for the neu-S4
should fit
Not Acceptable:
- Audi UrS6 Avus 16x7.5 ET37(?): Very close, but they will not fit- the
outer edge of the caliper hits the rim.
- A4 7-spoke 16x7 ET45: No way, again spoke clearance.
- A!Avantgarde 17x8 ET32: No way will these fit w/o a 15mm spacer or
thereabouts- the hub mounting face and spokes interfere with the caliper.
- Momo Arrow 16x7.5 ET35: No way will these fit, spoke clearance
nowhere close.
System
3
Tested and Acceptable:
- 1993 S4 stock wheels, 8Jx16H2 ET40. Labeled 4A0 601 025E
- S6 Avus wheels, 16 x 7.5 ET 37 (Speedlines)
- Audi 2000 S4, 17x7.5 Avus wheel
- Audi A8 5-spoke,
16x7 ET 37,
4D0 601 025L. "They clear with about 1mm to spare, no spacer required."
- BBS RX 17x8 ET35. "Tons of room."
-
Borbet Type B, 16x7.5 fits "with some room to spare"
- Borbet Type C, 16x7.5 KBA 42782, & C75630/1 ET 30. Just barely!
- 16" Borbet Type O. "There isn't much room to spare and I
had to get rid of some stick-on weights but it clears."
- Borbet Type T 17x8 ET
35
Not Acceptable:
- Audi 2000 A6 2.7T, 16x7 ET45, spacer required. ("The outer edge
of the caliper just barely makes contact with the outer part of the rim. It
looks like a 2.5mm spacer would move the wheel far enough away from the
caliper so that it would clear.")
- BBS RX, 16x7, 42mm offset. Back side of spoke hit outer edge of caliper. A
10mm spacer might make it work, but it's untested.
- Moda R1, 16x7.5. Wheel inside contacts the caliper radially.
- AT Type 10, 16" wheel (6-spokes). "Does not clear a Sys 3 setup.."
System 3 member feedback notes:
- Wheels that fit over System 1 will not necessarily fit over System 3
- Wheels that fit over the brakes on a 2.7T will not necessarily fit over
